George Main Stakes Nominations: Winx features among 11 Colgate Optic White Stakes entries

  • Winx aims for 20 in a row.
  • A few also nominated for Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington

Champion mare Winx has featured among 11 entries for Saturday’s Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick as she aims for her 20th consecutive victory.

Despite winning both the Warwick Stakes and Chelmsford Stakes this campaign and extending her unbeaten run to 19, some have suggested the daughter of Street Cry is looking vulnerable as a six-year-old.

As well as Winx, trainer Chris Waller has also nominate Foxplay who almost caused a massive upset in the Warwick Stakes when finishing 2nd to Winx, as well as Mackintosh and McCreery.

Tramway Stakes winner Happy Clapper is the only other last start winner among nominations and will be looking to extend his terrific second-up record of four wins and a 2nd from six attempts.

Eight-year-olds Ecuador and Red Excitement are the oldest gallopers among nominations, while Heavens Above, Le Romain, Invincible Gem and Tom Melbourne round out the entries.

2017 George Main Stakes Nominations:

1. ECUADOR (NZ) Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
2. FOXPLAY Chris Waller
3. HAPPY CLAPPER Patrick Webster
4. HEAVENS ABOVE Tim Martin
5. INVINCIBLE GEM Kris Lees
6. LE ROMAIN Kris Lees
7. MACKINTOSH (NZ) Chris Waller
8. MCCREERY (GB) Chris Waller
9. RED EXCITEMENT Gerald Ryan
10. TOM MELBOURNE (IRE) Chris Waller
