Winterbottom Stakes Barrier Draw: Viddora draws well

  • Barrier 8 most successful in recent times.
Viddora

Lloyd Kennewell’s classy mare, Viddora, will jump from an ideal gate in barrier five in Saturday’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot as she aims for back-to-back wins in the event.

The daughter of I Am Invincible scored by 1.5 lengths last year defeating a quality line up of locals as well as Fuhryk (2nd) and multiple Group 1 winner Santa Ana Lane (6th). She came out well in the barrier draw from the $1 million feature sprint.

Durendal finished 3rd in last year’s Winterbottom and scored a deserved win in Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) last start, but Chris Gangemi's star will have to jump from a wide draw in barrier 12.

Profit Street and Dainty Tess, will also line up in another Winterbottom having finished 4th and 7th respectively in 2017, enjoyed mixed fortunes at the barrier draw as they came up with gates two and 11 respectively.

Darren Weir will be represented by Voodoo Lad (barrier 14), who comes off an 8th placing in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, but he has the car park with only fellow interstate galloper the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Runson (gate 15) wider.

Malaguerra, who was 12th in the Manikato, also heads west for trainer Peter Gelagotis and will jump from barrier seven.

Other interstate competitors include Dan Mccarthy’s Ashlor (barrier eight) and I’ll Have A Bit (barrier 10) from the John McArdle stable.

Belter got the inside draw for trainer Sean Casey, while the well-regarded Enticing Star starts wide in gate 13 for Adam Durrant and William Pike.
