Newcastle Tips - December 8

Race 1 - 12:59PM MADDISON SAFETY & INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP (900 METRES)
Tough race and big rise in grade for the filly DESIGNER MAID here but she is a speedster who is trained here. And more significantly, she can scoot this trip having won this track and trip last start. They will come at her late but sheer speed is her ace in the hole.

Race 3 - 2:09PM THORZT SAFETY CG&E MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
CATEGORIC for Kathy O'hara here. Caught the eye with a strong finishing 2nd this grade and track last start. This is his 4th race start so presumably is fitter, and with more experience comes right into the frame this time from stablemate VERVE.

Race 8 - 5:16PM KEITH MADDISON CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
I was on SINGING SAND for a mint last start and she plodded home. Just plain old plodded when I thought she’d win by 3 lengths. She wound up 4th. Either I'm just off regarding her potential or she put in a bad one last start. I find out here because I'm determined to get all my money back.

Previous Newcastle Tips:

November 10

Race 2 - 1:34PM NEWCASTLE STEVEDORES BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (900 METRES)
NATALIA resumed from a spell last start and met with sizeable support firming in to start odds on favourite. This despite the fact she was up in grade and racing over more ground than she’d ever raced before and had drawn the extreme outside gate. She finished a good closing 5th despite all those obstacles. Is fitter now, drawn better and back in trip. Will take holding out.
Result (1st - $3.40)

Race 6 - 4:14PM QUATTRO RISK SERVICES CG&E MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Gai and Adrian hold the keys here and may well quinella the race with ZEPPELIN and BLACK SUNRISE. They finished next to one another last start at this level and perhaps Black Sunrise will derive the most benefit as it was his first start. And he made good ground late. Saying that, Zeppelin has been placed 6 times this level already. Good race.
Result (Quinella lost)

Race 8 - 5:49PM SUBWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Toppie TORYJOY has a big weight and is resuming here but does have class that she has displayed thus far that is superior to these. So in short, she has earned her weight. Won her maiden in town and has been runner up in the city too. None of these can boast stats like that.
Result (4th)

November 3

Race 2 - 1:04PM HUNTER JAGUAR CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
I love the back story here. This old boy, OAKFIELD JET, who is a rising 8YO, only began racing 3 weeks back and he scored at big odds in the mud at Kembla. Much harder here and he gets a firm track, but he obviously has a zest for the game and I'd keep him very safe.
Result (Unplaced)

Race 5 - 3:09PM STEEL CITY FP F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)
I'm on MIMIC here. She gets back and will be spotting them a fair start but being trained on this track and having had 2 previous runs before make her a neat bet I think. Last start before spell 5 months back, she was 10th for home and rattled late for 4th behind a few smart ones. Drawn well here, field looks easier and should be finishing like a train.
Result (Unplaced)

Race 7 - 4:39PM ROBERTS LEGAL NEWCASTLE NOBBYS - BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
I know this is a recipe for disaster but I believe this bloke MO THE GREAT is ready to win again. Yes, it's been several starts since he scored and he leads and gets beaten more often than not, but his runs have been, I think, in slightly better company of late. And this track can play to leaders. So give him one last chance.
Result (2nd)

October 20

Race 3 - 1:56PM COLLABORATIVE CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (900 METRES)
She's had 14 starts but only won once - not good stats on face value. However VENTURE CAPITAL has placed a further 8 times! Is a rocket early and speaking of placing, looks nicely in here over this scamper. Big show.
Result (1st - $5.10)

Race 6 - 3:46PM AUTO ONE WARNERS BAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
It's a rise in difficulty to come from bush racing to the provincials, and step up in grade also, but I kinda think Mikayla Weir and SILENT DREAM might handle it here. The horse drops a lot in weight and form has shown she runs well with no weight on her back. She's in form too and is drawn to get a great sit.
Result (3rd)

Race 8 - 5:11PM RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE NORTHERN NSW BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Old RADICAL IMPACT did enough last start when 3rd this grade to suggest he could give this rising star apprentice Mikayla Weir a double. He is down a bit in what he's raced in for the past 4 years and can rattle home.
Result (2nd)

September 29

Race 3 - 1:59PM AUSTRALIAN BLOODSTOCK CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)
Interesting. On form OUR ROYAL EGYPTIAN should jump to the front from gate rise, and even with this big weight, lead all the way. But TIME RAID, with just the one start to date, might be smart and is on the limit. Won his Tuncurry maiden by nearly 5 lengths. Watch betting but I still like Our Royal Egyptian the most.
Result (unplaced)

Race 4 - 2:34PM COASTLINE POOLS & SPAS MAIDEN HANDICAP (1500 METRES)
I love a dual acceptor and toppie DEVIL'S LUCK was withdrawn from a pretty average midweek maiden in preference for this. So, that'll do me.
Result (2nd)

Race 8 - 5:09PM HUNTER DEFENCE SUPPORT NETWORK BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
I have had good success backing topweights in these BM races who are better performed, who get big weights and then who get good apprentices to offset that weight. JEXERLENT, who has been up a while, is that horse here. Trapped deep when 5th BM 70 last start. Great draw, and allowance makes him look very hard to pass.
Result (unplaced)

September 15

Race 1 - 12:34PM ASCOT VIP MAIDEN PLATE (900 METRES)
One thing we know for sure is that Team Snowden's OYSTER BAY (which is a lovely leafy suburb of Sydney) is going to ping the lids and go hard early. No doubt tries to cross at the rate of knots and probably will. That will allow HANDSPUN, who has drawn the 2 gate, to punch up on the rails and be 2nd until they swing. Oyster Bay is weak late so Handspun can run him down and win for Godolphin.
Result (3rd)

Race 4 - 2:19PM TAB DOWNLOAD THE APP F&M MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Good maiden. We may be seeing a pretty fair filly in this race called LUCKY HELMET. She has had only 2 starts but has shown to be strong at the end of her races and being 2nd up here competes today fitter than ever before. Just beat home her rival VERANES last start and they can quinella this.
Result (1st - $4.40)

Race 8 - 4:54PM WESTFIELD KOTARA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Big, big drop in grade for SIGNORE FOX here. Raced, and raced poorly it must be said, at stakes level last start. But does love this track and just may not be as good as connections think. Still, should be good enough, off his maiden win 2 starts back, to account for these.
Result (1st - $4.40)
