Racing Bet of the Day November 7 - Mott can lift Pierro colt over the line at Kyneton

There doesn’t appear to be much opposition to the favourite in Race 1, the TAC Be Races Ready Maiden Plate (1850m) at Kyneton on Wednesday, and he should simply be winning.

The Danny O’Brien-trained Spilia is a three-year-old colt by Pierro who is having his fourth career start.

He’s out of Black Caviar’s half sister Belle Couture, and although his breeding doesn’t scream out ‘stayer,’ his grinding last start effort suggests the step up to 1850m is ideal.

Ironically, he finished 6th first-up behind Black Caviar’s son Prince Of Caviar over 1300m before stepping up to 1600m where he was doing his best work in the final 100m and finished less than a length from Lorenzetti.

He took a bit of riding from the 600m mark, and the booking of Jamie Mott who is one of the strongest riders going around is a perfect fit for this horse.

Lorenzetti ran 1:39.54 on the Soft 7 track, and most of this field can’t run that time on a Good track.

Mclairy finished 2.2 lengths from the winner in similar time on a Soft 6 (1:40.70) four starts ago before again finishing 2.2 lengths from Sikorsky in 1:37.78 on a Good 4.

However, he has been disappointing over 2025m and 2124m in his past two runs, and he either doesn’t get the extra trip or he’s training off.

Perfect Pony did too much work early last start and has upside, and he looms as the main danger.

With a soft run from the inside gate, Mott in the saddle and plenty of upside, I can’t see anything beating Spilia.
