  • Home track specialist looks well placed today
Rockhampton racing Friday

After finishing as bridesmaids yesterday at Ipswich, I’m confident we can bounce back today and this grey mare can fill our pockets for Stakes Day tomorrow.

Race 4 - 3:20PM QLD GOV - RQ RECOGNITION OPEN Handicap (1050 METRES)
Local trainer Tony McMahon has two runners engaged here with PARADIS IMPERIAL being the stand-out of the pair. This little grey mare is small in stature but has a heart as big as the Rockhampton home straight. The four-year-old loves her home track and her resume strongly reflects that with six wins and as many minor prizes from 14 starts here. A five-time winner at the track and trip, the mare has only missed a top three finish on two occasions here over the 1050m journey from 10 starts. Two starts back she took on a BM75 at Doomben and found them a little too quick, finishing unplaced. Last start however, she returned here and won the open handicap, beating home Court Clown who she locks horns with again today. The nine-year-old gelding will again carry topweight and should again take up the front running. He meets the little grey mare 1.5kgs better this time but with two starts behind her since her four-week freshen-up, I doubt that will make too much difference today. The stablemate (Mamselle Corday) has a good fresh record however she performs much better over further ground and will more than likely need this run. Gypsy Secret represents shocking value first-up having never won in six attempts and from where I sit looks tested today. Everything here points to a victory for the number seven saddlecloth.
