Godolphin's stable stalwart Hartnell will take his place as top weight in the $5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) with a capacity field of 18 plus four emergencies declared for the Spring Carnival feature.

The James Cummings-trained multiple Group One winner Hartnell has 58kg for Saturday's 2400m handicap which has a maximum field including three internationals and two more among the emergencies.

Hartnell drew wide in barrier 17, but will have company with some of the leading contenders in the betting markets also being out of luck in the barrier draw.

The Chris Waller-trained favourite Finche came up with barrier 19 - alongside stablemate Brimham Rocks in gate 20 - and the well-backed Japanese galloper Mer De Glace got the car park in gate 21.

Last Saturday's Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes winner The Chosen One is widest of all having come up with barrier 22 for Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman, while Kris Lees' Mustajeer will jump from gate 16.

Phillip Stokes' Mr Quickie has barrier 10, while there was mixed fortunes for Lindsay Park's runners with Rostropovich wide in gate 18 while stablemates Constantinople and Qafile getting barriers seven and six respectively.

Internationals Gold Mount (Ian Williams) and Red Vedron (Ed Dunlop) endured mixed fortunes and will jump from barrier four and 15 respectively.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Wolfe won Wednesday's Coongy Cup at Caulfield to clinch a ballot exemption and he is set to back-up on Saturday, and has a favourable draw in barrier five.

Wolfe, becomes the first horse since Circles Of Gold to win the Coongy and gain a Caulfield Cup start, cannot be re-handicapped for Wednesday's victory and will carry 50kg on Saturday.

The Mike Moroney-trained Sound is the first emergency with Neufbosc and internationals True Self and Prince Of Arran the other reserves.
