More Joyous wins the Futurity Stakes

The Futurity Stakes is a Group 1 weight-for-age event held in late February or early March each year at Caulfield during the Melbourne Autumn Carnival. 

The race is run over 1400 metres and carries prizemoney of $500,000. 

Last year’s race was won by Turn Me Loose beating Stratum Star with Suavito finishing third.

The Futurity Stakes is held on the biggest day of Melbourne’s Autumn Carnival which also includes the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, Group 1 Oakleigh Plate, Group 2 St George Stakes and Group 3 Mannerism Stakes and Zeditave Stakes.



Turn Me Loose

The race is also the first leg of the four-race International Series known as the Asian Mile Challenge. The series carries a total purse of more than $12.5 million which is organised jointly by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Japan Racing Association, Dubai Racing Club and the Melbourne Racing Club. It is open to horses from around the world.

The Futurity Stakes is one of the more prominent 1400 metre races that attract middle distance runners as well as strong sprinters. 

Some quality horses have taken out the event including More Joyous (2011), Fields Of Omagh (2006), Testa Rossa (2000), Schillaci (1993 & 1995), Redelva (1991) and Zeditave (1989).
