Cummings trio head 14 entries for Winx Stakes

James Cummings will spearhead an attack on Saturday’s Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick with three of his stable stars being nominated for the $500,000 feature. 

Avilius is the highest rated galloper (118) among the 14-strong entries, and he resumes from a spell having won four of five starts last campaign including two at elite level.

Best Of Days is also yet to race this preparation, while Alizee, who rounds out the Godolphin entries, resumed with a narrow but convincing win over Invincible Gem in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill. 

With champion mare Winx retired having won this race on three consecutive occasion, trainer Chris Waller will be looking to continue his winning association with the race and has nominated Kings Will Dream who will return from injury, as well as classy mares Unforgotten, Verry Elleegant and Youngstar. 

Patrick Webster’s Happy Clapper also resumes from a break and has been tuned up for this with two soft barrier trials.
