Northam Harness Tips May 25 - best bets for Northam on Saturday night

Northam harness racing (Jodie Hallows)

Northam hosts a nine-race card on Saturday night and here are my best bets for the meeting.

Race 2 - EDWARD MURPHY 3YO+ MS PACE (2190m) – 8:19pm AEST

Very keen on Antagonistic as the 3YO gelding drops significantly in class. Trained by Debbie Padberg and driven by Shannon Suvaljko, the gelding can be put into the race at the start with the horses drawn inside not the strongest contenders. Antagonistic lights up my figures for last half, last 1200m and 1600m and it is no surprise considering he has been racing against his own age group. Four starts ago he claimed a HWOE LT $12,000 race and this is much easier.

My Rated Price: $1.50

* Odds correct at 11:35am

Race 4 - VEEDA MURPHY 3YO+ MS PACE (2190m) – 9:15pm AEST

I like another Debbie Padberg-trained 3YO on the card and this time it is the colt Amadeo. Like Antagonistic, he drops in class having racing against the likes of Franco Edward and Theo Aviator in recent races. Universal Major will lead and probably won’t hand up this time as there is no sprint lane. Amadeo would be looking to obtain cover on the back of Raging Romeo who usually races outside of the leader. Amadeo may have a bit too much closing speed for Universal Major with the pair the most likely winners of the race. There are other chances too with Ignite The Passion, Glens Of Tekoa and Jilliby Navajo engaged.

My Rated Price: $2.40

Race 8 - LLOYD POWELL 3YO+ SS PACE (2560m) – 11:17pm AEST

A capacity standing-start field and the handicaps make this an intriguing race. I am siding with the mare, Rock N Roll Delight for trainer Sarah Suvaljko. She was runner up two starts ago off a 40m handicap at Narrogin and has been racing well enough with Dylan Egerton-Green driving. There is no Ultimate Offer in the race and Rock N Roll Delight should relish meeting easier opposition than she has faced in mobiles. Happy with the $5 on offer and she should run well.

My Rated Price: $3.00

I always enjoy the challenge of handicapping maiden races and I am hoping that the driver change of Kyle Harper on for trainer Peter Arthur can get 3YO filly Brook Parks Last over the line from barrier one. Six starts for no placings, Brook Parks Last hasn’t finished closer than seventh in a race, but this looks a more suitable race from the good draw. There won’t be a lot of speed on and that will suit the frontrunners in the event. Classy Savette and Faire La Fete look the other leading contenders, along with Enchantress who has a nice trailing draw.

My Rated Price: $3.30

* Odds correct at 11:35am
