Aethero does it all too easy at Sha Tin

Promising two-year-old Aethero

Boom two-year-old gelding Aethero made it look like a stroll in the park at Sha Tin on Sunday as the well-bred chestnut streeted his rivals in the Liberator Griffin Plate over 1200m.

In what was a real ‘Luskin Star’ performance, the John Moore-trained gelding was eased from enjoying an eight-length lead to officially win the first race of the day by three lengths, as a $1.05 favourite is expected to do.

With Zac Purton in the saddle, they covered the journey in 1:10.1 which when you consider Purton had already stopped riding as they passed the 100m mark, the timepiece could have read anything.

His bloodlines could explain the raw talent he has shown after just two race starts.

By Sebring out of an Encosta De Lago mare, Purton has also noticed the potential in the two-year-old and was quick to voice his opinion.

“He could be the best horse I have ridden” were Purton’s words.

A big call from Purton, after he has dominated both Hong Kong tracks on Beauty Generation, voted the world’s best miler (on turf).

This son of Sebring came off a trial at Sha Tin back in March (where he finished a close-up third) then on debut beat home Winning Method by two lengths with Sparkling Knight more than six lengths further back in third place.

With the Hong Kong racing season set to end on July 14, future plans for the two-year-old are unknown at this stage but he certainly looks like going to another level once he matures further.
