Eagle Farm - Set for trials next week

Officials remain optimistic of Eagle Farm conducting a full race meeting before the end of the year.

Track gallops were held on Tuesday and the track surface appeared to hold up well, bringing applause from the grandstand by on-lookers.

Trainers and jockeys alike were more than happy with how the track stood up, and the barrier trials set down for next week will go ahead as planned.

Trainer Chris Anderson was optimistic that racing on Brisbane’s premier track will happen very soon.

“We’ve been patient and it looks like they’ve got it right” he said.

Even those in the riding ranks were happy with leading rider Jim Byrne having a restless night on Monday, looking forward to what he was hoping would occur once he hit the track.

“Last night I had a fair bit of anticipation and I couldn’t sleep, getting up at 1:30 because, you know, it’s been a long time since we’ve been on the track” Byrne said.

Trainer Rob Heathcote was told by returning jockeys that the surface “had a beautiful cushion, the horses travelled and they barely bruised the grass”.

Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe is keeping his cards close to his chest while remaining optimistic of a return to racing at Eagle Farm.

“Let’s be cautious, let’s be careful, but I’m really excited about the prospects of the return to the home of racing” he said.

All going well, a complete race meeting is planned to happen on Saturday December 22.
