The James Cummings stable is down to two runners in the Group One Kingsford-Smith Cup after Cummings scratched Home Of The Brave due to illness.

Racenet reports that Cummings had concerns over an elevated temperature that the Starspangledbanner gelding had developed which gave him no option other than to withdraw the seven-year-old from the event.

Cummings stated that stable staff identified the problem during a routine inspection on Friday afternoon.

This gave Cummings no choice but to scratch the horse from the $700,000 Group One event.

The official scratching time was 4.28pm.

At this stage, Cummings is still uncertain as to what happens from here with Home Of The Brave.

“We’ll nominate him for the Moreton Cup and we’ll decide next if he runs there or goes straight to the Stradbroke,” Cummings said.
“He could even go straight to the paddock because a hiccup is far from ideal.”

The Godolphin contingent are left with two representatives for the Kingsford-Smith Cup.

Currently, Sportsbet have Trekking as the $6 favourite for the race while the second of the Godolphin runners, Encryption, is a $16 chance.
