Entertainer Taylor Swift has become the first scratching for this year’s Melbourne Cup after announcing the cancellation of her planned performance.

The 29-year-old International singer has been forced to cancel her Melbourne Cup trip due to unforeseeable changes to her upcoming Asian tour.

The Victorian Racing Club issued a statement confirming the news.

“Mushroom Events has regretfully advised the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) that a recent change to Taylor Swift’s Asian promotional tour means she will no longer be able to perform at this year’s Melbourne Cup," the statement said.
“Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here. To all of Taylor’s fans, we hope to see Taylor in Australia in 2020.”

VRC Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson also voiced his disappointment on the news.

“The VRC has learned that Taylor Swift is now unable to make the trip to Australia and therefore cannot be with us on Melbourne Cup Day” he said.
“Obviously, this is disappointing for everyone.
“We understand how important the pre-Cup entertainment is and we look forward to providing an update shortly.”

The Melbourne Cup will be run on November 5 and currently the Chris Waller-trained Finche is the $15 favourite with Sportsbet, after winning the Group Three Kingston Town Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
