The Adam Trinder-trained Mystic Journey took her first step towards her Group One targets at Flemington in the Autumn, by winning first-up at Launceston on Wednesday night.

The three-year-old filly was sent out a raging $1.20 favourite but it wasn’t an easy watch for punters, as the daughter of Needs Further was last on the inside at the 600m. Jockey Anthony Darmanin peeled to the outside in the straight and she thundered down the outside.

The clock backed up her effort, as she ran some amazing closing sectionals. She ran her last 600m in 32.66s, and her last 200m in 10.62s.

Trainer Adam Trinder spoke on RSN 927’s Racing Pulse on Thursday morning.

“So our primary target is the Australian Guineas (1600m), a fortnight before the All-Star Mile.” Trinder said.
“We can target that with total clarity, as opposed to the All-Star Mile which is up in the air. From a timing perspective, the All-Star Mile works out really well with the Australian Guineas.
“I’m really looking forward to getting her to Flemington. I just want to see her getting to a big galloping track, where she can balance up and length. She attacks the line and runs right through it."

Mystic Journey is currently $7.00 for the Australian Guineas with Sportsbet
