Group one winning mare Oohood has been officially retired from racing after failing in the Makybe Diva Stakes on the weekend.

Trainer Tony McEvoy made the announced following the mare’s disappointing effort in the Group One event on Saturday at Flemington.

The I Am Invincible mare’s only victory was in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in September last year which she won as a three-year-old.

She returned to the track in the Group Three Aurie's Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington after a 23-week spell where she wasn’t disgraced when finishing mid-field behind So Si Bon.

Then second-up, the four-year-old ran on well to finish seventh behind Scales Of Justice in the Group One Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

But third-up in the Makybe Diva Stakes, she failed to run on well enough to keep owner, Sheikh Khalifa, enthused enough to keep the mare in work.

McEvoy informed the media today of the decision.

“Her first two runs back were very good but Saturday she was certainly disappointing and (owner) Sheikh Khalifa decided to retire her,” he said.

Whilst retiring with only one win to her name, she also racked-up seven minor  placings, four of those at Group One level, and amassed prizemoney of just over $1.5 million.
