Pakistan Star - Winning the 2018 Chartered-Chater Cup

Trainer Paul O’Sullivan has made a major gear change for Pakistan Star ahead on Sunday’s Group One Chartered-Chater Cup (2400m) at Sha Tin.

The Shamardal gelding will step onto the Sha Tin track minus his famous green and white headgear after he successfully trialled without the distinctive blinkers recently.

The six-year-old impressed O’Sullivan enough when winning the trial by 2.5 lengths ahead of handy gallopers Full Of Beauty and Time Warp, he has decided to line him up in Sunday’s big event without them.

“We just took them off to try to get the horse to switch off,” O’Sullivan said.
“That’s the biggest problem.
“If he relaxes he’ll be very competitive but he has to switch off.
“His trial was encouraging but his last two runs have been quite satisfactory – probably not up to his brilliant best of the past, to be fair.
“That being the case, I just expect him to race well again.”

Victorious in this race last year, Pakistan Star will be out to defend his title against some smart opposition.

Heading the list is the odds-on favourite Exultant who will be ridden by leading jockey Zac Purton.

Challenges are also expected from the Frankie Lor-trained Dark Dream, who won the Group One QLD Derby at his last start on Australian soil in June last year, and Glorious Forever who took out the Group One Hong Kong Cup (2000) as one of his four victories on the Sha Tin circuit.
