Spirit's Choice

Another Spirit Of Boom filly has come under notice as Spirit’s Choice shortens in the three-year-old QTIS Jewel (1200m) to be run at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Punters have warmed to her current form which has seen her price plummet from her opening quote of $12 into equal second favourite at $5 with TAB markets.

Nicely bred, out of a Snippetson mare, the Matthew Cropp-trained filly set the times alight when she came off two unplaced runs at Doomben to totally destroy her opposition in a BM62 at Dalby, winning the 1200m event by almost seven lengths.

She covered the distance in a sharp 1:07.88 which set a new track record for the 1200 metres, previously held by Tisani Tomso at 1:08.42.

She has since won two more races completing the hat-trick with another dominant performance where she put six lengths on her rivals at the same track.

She has drawn well in the 16-strong field, jumping from gate seven and with her early gate speed should see her up on the pace.

Current race favourite is the Ben Currie-trained Mishani Hustler who is also in top form, winning the three-year-old Jewel Prelude two weeks ago at Doomben.

The Exceedingly Good colt has won six of his 10 career starts including five of those at the 1200m trip.

His stablemate, Soxagon has come in for plenty of attention as well where after opening at $21 with TAB, the colt now sits at $13 in current markets.

Resuming after nearly a year in the paddock, the son of Rocker showed he was ready to race again, winning his maiden by almost 10 lengths, after missing the start in a field of 12.

Defence Missile, to be ridden by Jeff Lloyd, shares second favouritism with Spirit’s Choice at $5 in the $200,000 event.
