Exhilarates claimed the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast

It was Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast on Saturday January 12 with $10 million in prizemoney on offer throughout the afternoon.

Here is our recap of all the action and we take a look at where the big names are headed next.

Exhilarates the star on Gold Coast's big day

The headline act at the Gold Coast was the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) and it was a barnstorming win by the Godolphin filly, Exhilarates, who took out the $2 million encounter from Dubious and Hightail.

Sent in a $4 favourite after her win at the track last weekend, the daughter of Snitzel settled towards the rear of the field but came with a well timed run to score under the urgings of the big race rider, Kerrin McEvoy.

The stable are yet to announce her immediate plans but it is expected that she will be targeted at the Golden Slipper (1200m) in March. She is an $8.50 second favourite in early markets for the world's richest two-year-old race.

In the 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast it was a thrilling three-way go between Boomsara, Bondi and Outback Barbie. The Chris Munce-trained Boomsara just held off his rivals in the closing stages to take out the $2 million affair.

The big stables featured at the venue with Chris Waller enjoying a winning double courtesy of Tumultuous and Invincibella, while Bjorn Baker's Egyptian Symbol and Redouble were also amongst the victors.

Flemington

Microphone took out the opening event of the day for the two-year-olds and is another Godolphin galloper that is Golden Slipper bound. He is not nominated for the next months's Blue Diamond (1200m).

O'Tauto was one of the star performers, grinding out a win from a seemingly hopeless position earlier in the straight in the Furlong Bar Handicap (1400m). Greg Eurell has the Australian Guineas (1600m) in mind for the three-year-old.

Silentz, Manolo Blahniq and I Am Someone were other impressive winners and will all be stepping up in class in their next few starts.

Randwick

The apprentice jockey, Robbie Dolan, picked up a winning treble at Randwick with wins aboard Single Bullet, Turnberry and Live And Free, while Linda Meech opened up the program with a winning double on Star Fall and Smart As. Taniko, Extreme Bliss, Mazaz and Onslaught were other winners on the nine race programme.

Looking Ahead

The Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) will be run on Thursday January 17, while Saturday racing on the 19th features the Kensington Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.
