Feature racing was at Doomben and Morphettville on Saturday May 11 for the running of the Doomben 10000 (1200m) and the SA Derby (2500m).

With the Group 1 action to continue in both Queensland and South Australia in the coming weeks, we take a look at where the big names are headed next.

The Bostonian to target the Stradbroke, where to for Osborne Bulls?

It was an upset win for The Bostonian in the $800,000 Doomben 10000 with the Tony Pike-trained galloper, holding off Osborne Bulls and Dollar For Dollar.

The winner will continue on towards the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June, while Osborne Bulls might continue to search for that elusive Group 1 win after finishing runner-up at the highest level at his past five starts.

A decision on the direction that the James Cummings-trained galloper will be made early this week. One horse that is likely to be sent for a spell is Nature Strip, who was an unlucky 4th behind The Bostonian after covering plenty of ground.

Earlier at Doomben, Archedemus was an impressive winer of the Newington Farm Members Handicap (1600m) and that horse will back up and run in the Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 18.

Other targets for winners from Brisbane include the Brisbane Cup (2400m) for the Group 3 Chairman's Handicap (2000m) winner, Le Juge, while the Champagne Classic (1200m) winner, Dubious, will next line up in the BRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m). A crack at the older horses in the Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) is also an option.

Star fillies to clash in Queensland after wins in Morphettville features

It was a win for the Hayes & Dabernig-trained filly, Qafila, who upset the boys in the SA Derby and could line up in the Queensland Oaks (2400m) in a fortnight before stepping up to open grade next season. A run in the Oaks would see her clash against the Australasian Oaks (2000m) winner, Princess Jenni.

Scone winners to head North?

Wild Planet claimed the Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m) earlier on the programme at Scone and may be sent up for a crack at some of the Brisbane feature races but the exciting Anthony Cummings-trained Libertini is likely to go for a spell with a view to the Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in the spring. The Brisbane carnival awaits for other winners including the Godolphin duo of Trekking and Viridine.

Looking Ahead

Saturday May 18 sees the running of the Doomben Cup at Doomben, while at Morphettville it is the Goodwood (1200m). Following that, the focus then centres on Eagle Farm with the Kingsford Smith Cup, Queensland Derby (2400m) and the Stradbroke other major races that are looming over the next month.
