Ballarat Tips August 13 - Value with a favourite at Ballarat

Ballarat

Synthetic racing continues in Victoria on Tuesday, with an eight-race card at Ballarat. I’m keen to bet, with the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Design Rouge likely to go on to Saturday class races and he looks very, very hard to beat here in race seven.

Race 7 - 4:30pm Sportsbet – Grubs On Tour BM64 Handicap - Winter Synthetic Sprint Heat 5 (1200m)
The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained DESIGN ROUGE is an extremely promising prospect and the four-year-old son of Written Tycoon should progress through his grades over the coming months. He had form around Extra Brut and Prince Of Caviar this time last year before going for a spell and returning at Kyneton, going down as a $1.35 favourite. He went out for a 195-dayspell after that run and returned gelded at Ballarat a fortnight ago. The ultimate gear change certainly did the trick, as he bolted in under hands and heels riding, while running some serious impressive sectionals. He ran a career personal best by over six-lengths and ran 12.3 lengths quicker than the maiden benchmark, which is a huge figure. Not surprisingly, he ran the quickest last 400m, 600m and 800m of the meeting. His overall benchmark figure was six-lengths above benchmark, which was remarkable, considering that was 10.9 lengths better than any other winner on the meeting. Only three horses broke benchmark for the meeting and it was Design Rouge and the two placegetters, Sword Of Mercy and Wild Vitality. Only one horse has run from the race since and that was the third horse Wild Vitality, who lined up at Donald on Saturday and was luckless, sitting three and four-wide the trip and just getting nabbed by Big Brew over the final 50m. Looking at the dangers in the race, the Matthew Cumani-trained Surfliner is the current second-favourite but hasn’t produced a figure in his career to suggest he could get near Design Rouge, although he does have strong SP’s so that could keep him firm in the market. It will be a max bet for me on Design Rouge but that horse I couldn’t lose on is Wind Force. His last start effort at Flemington was good enough to be competitive in this and his last start figure of 5.8 lengths above benchmark suggests as much, I can’t lose on him at around the 20/1 mark. This race looks primed for the taking for Design Rouge, jockey John Allen should be able to do what he likes from barrier four and the current price of $2.10 looks incredible value, I wouldn’t be surprised if this horse started around the $1.50-$1.60 mark.
