Cairns Tips June 10 - A 'bold' day ahead for Ryan Wiggins

  • A big day on the cards for Ryan Wiggins
  • Suggested Stake: 5 Units to Win
Cairns racing at Cannon Park Monday

A mammoth 10-race program is on the agenda at Cannon Park today and I am expecting a big and ‘Bold’ day ahead for Ryan Wiggins and trainer Garnett Taylor.

Race 10 - 5:07PM U-NEED SECURITY CAIRNS RACE TO THE REEF OPEN Handicap - HEAT (950 METRES)
Brisbane rider Ryan Wiggins teams up with Sunshine Coast trainer Garnett Taylor as they throw down an all-out assault on Cairns today with runners in three events. Finishing off the day is BOLD XAVVI who looks the better placed of the three considering we have a wet track to deal with today. This Testa Rossa gelding is in a real purple patch of form lately and if he can overcome the wide gate he will take a ton of beating here. Three starts back, he won his first race in almost a year, beating home a Class 6 field at Rockhampton where he put almost three lengths on Quick Ketch in the 1200m event. He was then nosed-out on the line by Guissola in the Mayor’s Cup on the same track where they ran the 1200m in 1:08.9 so there was no shame running second to that time on the day. Last start he hit a soft track at Mackay but handled it well, winning the BM75 event over 1100m. Jockey Ryan Wiggins was aboard for all three of those rides and he partners the four-year-old here again. Bold Xavvi is a horse who likes to jump and run which could make things a little interesting at barrier rise with so much early speed in the race. After scratchings we have just eight runners left which almost negates the wide draw. This will be the 10th time Wiggins has been aboard the gelding so he has a good understanding of how best he races and will no doubt get him into a comfortable racing pattern early. It is the horse’s first look at the Cannon Park track so he will need to be somewhere near the speed with the run home just over 300 metres to the winning post. With the scratching of the Roy Chillemi-trained Concluder, it makes the job a little easier to take the honours here.
