Cairns Tips July 16 - Two great chances for today

Steve Bennett in Free Tips 16 Jul 2019
  • 2 red-hot chances for Cairns today
  • Suggested Stake: 4 Units on each selection
Cairns racing at Cannon Park Tuesday

Conditions are ideal for racing at Cannon Park as we race on a Soft 7 today and there are several winning chances on the program.

Race 5 - 2:12PM CAIRNS SUNLAND LEISURE PARK Class 2 Handicap (1250 METRES)
The in-form AGGARWAL looks the one they all have to beat here, and going on his last start win at Townsville, this field may be hard pressed to do that. The four-year-old is yet to run a bad race since arriving at the Roy Chillemi stables having won two of his three North Queensland starts. He won his maiden at Townsville three starts back and followed that up with a nail-biting second to Candy Girl here in a Class 1 over 1250m. His last start effort was arguably the best of the day at Townsville where jumped from the boondocks (gate 12) and was caught three-deep without cover to the turn. He was pushed out even further turning for home and passing the 100m mark, hit the front and held them all at bay in a mighty performance.  He is well bred, by Snitzel out of a Flying Spur mare and it’s hard to see any of these troubling him, based on that last start effort.

Odds correct as at 9:30AM (AEST) on 16/07/2019

Race 7 - 3:27PM THE EAGLE FLYER BenchMark 75 Handicap (1250 METRES)
Thriving in the North Queensland lifestyle, the Janel Ryan-trained POLAR BLAST has raced seven times in the tropics and is yet to miss a top-two finish. The Smart Missile gelding strung four on the trot last campaign to head to the paddock undefeated. After a lengthy six-month spell, he returned to the track and had to face talented galloper The Harrovian and finished just a length behind him to grab second prize in a Class 6 over 1200m. Next start, it was déjà vu only he failed by a mere lip to beat The Harrovian in a rematch on this track over 1250m. Then last start, he took over at the 200m mark but just couldn’t hold off the challenge from Imanui who finished best to get the nod. He tended to hang out in the run home, despite wearing blinkers and hopefully that was just a one-off affair. There’s no Harrovian or Imanui here and third-up today, he should be at his peak in fitness. The five-year-old loves this track and he looks the benchmark here.
