Here are my best bets for Gosford and Lismore today:

GOSFOFD:

Race 2 - 1:50PM CENTRAL COAST MOTOR GROUP CG&E CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Hawkes Racing have found a suitable event to kick off for the talented Star Witness gelding VEDDER. You won’t miss him in the run as he’s a flashy chestnut with a blonde tail and mane, but his looks have nothing to do with his ability, and he’s shown enough of that to be winning first-up. He defeated Lucky Louie at this track and trip last campaign and that galloper went on to win his next start, and an impressive barrier trial at Warwick Farm has Vedder primed for Tuesday’s assignment. He has great early speed and should take up the running, and from there, his class can get him home.

Race 5 - 3:40PM SUNDAY MARKETS @THE EG 3RD MARCH 4 OR MORE STARTS - MDN PLATE (1100m)
Three horses between $2.60 and $3 here, and I’m especially keen on one of them. NOW OR NEVER is the $2.60 favourite and is coming off a very impressive barrier trial where she worked home under a hold to finish 2nd. This trial was at least six lengths better than her trial last preparation, and I think she can break through now. She is unplaced in five runs but has been learning and trainer Gary Portelli obviously has an opinion of her seeing he threw her into the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) last campaign where she finished eight lengths from Seabrook and Fiesta. She’s much stronger now and looks perfectly placed in this maiden. Pindus is the main danger but has had plenty of chances.

LISMORE:

Race 2 - 2:50PM TURSA EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1516 METRES)
I’m willing to take on the short-priced favourite Cool Prince who has won three in a row but rises to a hefty 62.5kg and races at Lismore for the first time. Last start, Cool Prince beat Tudor Sunrise home by 4.7 lengths, and I’m using that form reference to find some value. HOPE ISLAND finished 2.5 lengths from Tudor Sunrise last start when carrying 6kg more than that galloper, and his preparation is messy going up and down in trip like a Yoyo. He’s placed seven of eight at the track (including one win), and he now goes from 1400m to 1516m which is logical for a fit horse that gets back and runs on. Matthew McGuren will give him a sweet ride back in the field and try and swoop late at nice odds.
