Hawkesbury Tips April 16 - $61 chance looks overs at Hawkesbury

Admittedly, I’m concerned about the Gary Nickson-trained Judge’s Daughter running a strong 1100m in Race 4, the Hawkesbury Gazette 2YO Maiden Handicap (1100m) at Hawkesbury on Tuesday, but is she does run the trip, she’s a winning chance.

The daughter of Star Witness is a $61 chance in the two-year-old event, and she certainly looks over the odds if you consider some of her form.

She finished 2nd in an 800m barrier trial at Warwick Farm and was tiring late but held on to defeat Tenley who then won three in a row before being beaten in the Golden Slipper and Sires’ Produce.

Judge’s Daughter went to Kembla eight days later and sat outside the leader in a 900m event but weakened badly and finished five lengths from Stronger who then finished 3rd to Athiri and Accessions at his next start.

With a 19-week break to strengthen and mature, Judge’s Daughter returned with a 794m trial win at Warwick Farm where she ran good time compared to the other two-year-olds on the day, and her time was only three lengths off the open class horses like White Moss who won at Randwick last Saturday.

Judge’s daughter beat home Akari and Kahlo in the most recent trial, and Kahlo finished 4.8 lengths from Anaheed and Flit in the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick last Saturday.

Judge’s Daughter appeared must stronger this time in and based on her latest trial effort on a Heavy track, she looked strong enough to be running at least 1000m.

The 1100m first-up is the concern, but I’m putting some faith in Nickson who could have opted for an easier first-up assignment for this filly.

This is an extremely open contest, but $61 and $12 is over the odds and I’m willing to roll the dice.
