Hawkesbury Tips September 12 - best bets for Hawkesbury racing on Thursday

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 12 Sep 2019

Thursday’s thoroughbred racing in NSW comes from Hawkesbury where a nine-race card will be run on a Good 3.

Here are my best bets for Hawkesbury today:

Race 6 - 3:20PM RICHMOND CLUB BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (2100 METRES)
James McDonald heads to Hawkesbury for four rides, and I’d bet it’s the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-prepared STELLAR IMPACT that attracted him. The Japanese-import led all the way in her Australian debut over 1895m, and she should take plenty of improvement from that run. McDonald will offset the wide gate by heading forward and taking the lead, and I’d expect this mare to be too strong for them.
Race 9 - 5:10PM REDBANK NORTH RICHMOND CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Going for one at massive odds here so punt sparingly. Most people would think ‘blinkers on’ for the first time produces more winners than any other gear change, and a couple of runners (Sedgemoor and Pride Of Darci) have that gear adjustment in this event. However, it’s ‘concussion plates off’ for the first time that is the most winning gear change. Presumably because a horse is no longer suffering with the hoof soreness that required it to wear concussion plates. Hawkesbury specialist LEGISTATION gets concussion plate off the front for the first time, and I’m willing to have a crack at him for that reason, but not that reason alone. All of his six career wins have been at Hawkesbury, and while most have come on a Soft track, that may be because of his hoof issues. With a month between runs last time, he was last to begin but mustered around the field to sit third. He used a bit of gas early but battled on well to hold 4th place behind Attilius in a BM66 carrying 59.5kg. He gets in here with 55kg, and if his hooves are fine, he could surprise and attack the line at a very big price.
