Ipswich Cup Tips - Teo up for another tough Fight

An uninspiring renewal of the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) where two last start winners take on some battling stayers.

Fighting Teo and Ruby Guru are the last start winners, and I’m keen to follow this form line.

Ruby Guru carried 1.5kg less than Fighting Teo two starts back when finishing 2.7 lengths from that galloper over 2000m, and Ruby Guru and Fighting Teo have both won since.

Fighting Teo dropped back to 1625m last start which didn’t look ideal, but he proved to strong and made it back-to-back wins.

Five starts back he finished 4.2 lengths from subsequent Queensland Oaks (2200m) winner Winning Ways who was carrying 4.5kg less on that occasion.

Regular rider Luke Tarrant retains the ride from barrier 2, and from there, the pair should land just behind the speed which looks ideal with no real pace in this event.

The Kris Lees-trained High Opinion brings strong Sydney form and looms as the main danger.

High Opinion beat Fighting Teo home in the 2200m race behind Winning Ways, but Fighting Teo was coming off a four-week let-up after a testing 2400m run on a Heavy track, and he was vulnerable.

High Opinion was runner-up at his next two before what may have seemed a disappointing effort in the McKell Cup (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens where he ran 6.8 lengths above all Benchmark (BM) which is the strongest last start BM performance among Saturday’s rivals.

Despite that being the case, Fighting Teo is in winning form and is drawn to get the run of the race which should give him every chance to make it three in a row.
