Midweek racing in Queensland is at Ipswich for an eight-race program on a Good 4 track. Small fields are the order of the day and race six is no exception, where the Tony Gollan-trained Purroni looks a standout.

Race 6 - 3:38pm SCHWEPPES Maiden Handicap (1200m)
The Tony Gollan-trained three-year-old daughter of Pierro, PURRONI resumed from a 140-day spell at Doomben a fortnight ago and ran a good fourth in what has proved a really good form race. It’s no surprise the form from that maiden was strong, with the winner running 3.6 lengths quicker than maiden benchmark and the race rated 0.3 lengths above the all benchmark which was the equal second-best rating race on the day, tied with a Benchmark 70. The second-placed horse Primo Agosto bolted in his maiden at Doomben on Monday, defeating Fa Fa who ran seventh behind Purroni. The fifth-placed Cellarmaid also won her maiden on Monday, defeating the ninth-placed Lady Belzone, so I doubt the form from that race could be much stronger. Purroni was inconvenienced at the 200m in that race and arguably should’ve finished closer, he gets the blinkers off for the first time from barrier one and gets J.Byrne on, who had ridden 10 winners from his last 50 rides with a ROI of over 15 percent. Purroni clearly has the best last start figures in this race and with even luck, should be going very close to winning.
