Mackay racing Tuesday

Today’s track is a good 3 and I like a couple that enjoy racing on top of the ground.

Race 1 - 12:17PM TAB BM69 Handicap (1560 METRES)
Back on her home track today, local trainer Trinity Bannon looks set for a big day with no less than seven runners representing the stable at the Ooralea track. Her first comes up here and although carrying topweight, CASTA is by far the best horse in this event and will take a ton beating today. Yet to win this preparation, the Dane Shadow gelding hasn’t been far away of late. Two starts back, he was third-up and over the 1300m trip, did well in running home late to grab second prize behind Mr Attitude. Then last start, he came across a heavy track and again finished well to just miss a top three finish behind stablemate Warwick Avenue over the more suitable 1560m journey. He drops significantly in class here, from open company to BM69 grade and is a four-time winner at the track and distance. With Ryan Wiggins aboard, he looks great value.

Race 5 - 2:42PM Taylors Solicitors Mackay Cup Sat 13th July BM55 Handicap (1300 METRES)
Brisbane rider Ryan Wiggins could share the spoils with the Bannon stable today if he can steer COLORADO RIVER home here. Wiggins has several top rides today and will (no doubt) start a warm favourite for the jockey’s challenge here. The Jared Wehlow-trained gelding has returned from a 22-week spell in good order, finishing top three at his past two starts. Second-up, he looked good when finishing third behind Daunting Queen in a class 2 over 1400m at Rockhampton. He led passing the 200m mark that day but fitness was the issue there. Last start, he came from behind to beat all but Delago Edition home in an easier class 1 over 1200m on a wet Rockhampton track. His resume shows a clear preference for dry tracks where he has finished in the placings seven times from 13 starts on top of the ground. Wiggins has been aboard for six of those runs and sticks with him here. He lines up here against the classy Trerice from the Bannon stable but he has a big 6kgs advantage on the topweight which should prove the difference in the end.
