Mackay Tips September 10 - Two hot chances for today

Steve Bennett in Free Tips 10 Sep 2019
  • Ricky Vale's gelding looks today's best chance
  • Trinity Bannon's four-year-old looks hard to beat as well
Mackay racing Tuesday

Couldn’t split two hot chances today so let’s run with both of them.

Race 5 - 4:15PM MOJO'S BENCHMARK 69 Handicap (1200 METRES)
In outstanding form this time round, the Ricky Vale-trained FRUGAL looks a standout here and at the weights, he will prove very hard to hold out. A true model of consistency, the well-bred five-year-old has finished top-three in 12 of his past 13 starts and that’s no mean feat. After a three-week freshen-up, he did it tough in a BM69 at Rockhampton two starts back, where he sat outside the leader and had the job of taking the field up for the challenge. The long 600m home straight took its toll on him but hitting the lead on straightening, he battled on gamely to take third prize home that day, beaten a length on the line. A week later, he lined up in a Class 3 Plate at Yeppoon over 1100m and on a Firm 2 track, he gave them a galloping exhibition, winning the event by almost three lengths. He is now coming off a three-week freshen-up and from gate two, he should be box-seating here. Ryan Wiggins returns from suspension today and will be as fresh as the horse, who he has ridden to victory twice previously. Dropping 3.5kgs from that last win, he looks the pick of the day.

Race 7 - 5:25PM TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap (1100 METRES)
The ‘luckless’ TA CHANSON finally saw a change of luck last start and after 13 attempts, broke his maiden status last start. The Trinity Bannon-trained four-year-old was out-of-sorts up until then. Three starts back, after being hampered in the run, he looked the winner half way home on this track (his home track), but was run down late by Act Of Bravery. Then next up, Bannon made the five-hour trip north to Townsville with him, only to see him tip jockey, Justin Stanley out of the saddle at barrier rise. (Then came the LONG drive back home). Then finally, last start, he must have killed his last Chinaman, and lady luck swung his way. Sent out a ‘white-hot’ favourite ($1.30), he did it tough but in the end he got the better of Terminate and held him off to kick the maiden tag and win by half a length on the line. This BM0-55 looks no harder as he lines up here in gate six carrying the same weight. Justin Stanley remains aboard and Bannon has said the horse is in tip-top shape for this. Provided he allows Stanley to remain aboard again, he looks another top selection for today’s program.
