Muswellbrook Tips January 10 - 2 best bets for NSW racing on Thursday

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 9 Jan 2019
  • Confidence rating: Ayham 70% to win, 90% to Place, The Haitian Poet 93%
  • Suggested stake: Ayham (1 unit to win, 2 units to place), The Haitian Poet (3 units to win)

NSW racing action takes place at Muswellbrook on Thursday and I’ve found two great chances on the eight-race card.

Here are my best bets for Muswellbrook today:

Race 3 - 2:25PM BENGALLA MINING BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)
AYHAM looks way over the odds here and I’m expecting a much-improved effort as he steps up in trip at his fourth run this campaign. The seven-year-old son of Eavesdropper takes some racing to get to fitness, and after two average performances over 1200m and 1100m, he stepped up to 1300m last start and tried to lead all the way but weakened in the final 100m to be beaten 2.8 lengths. He carried 60kg in the BM58 and now carries 55.5kg as he tackles BM66 company. The slight step up in grade is no concern, as he maps extremely well and will run the race to suit. Other than Dynamic Dynasty who likes to settle just off the pace, every other runner prefers to settle midfield or worse. This gives Ayham absolute control of the tempo, and if he can dictate terms out in front and then build just before the turn, he’s able to score at this track and trip as he did last preparation. In a field of eight, he only has to hold off five runners to pay a very handsome Place dividend ($4.40).

Race 4 - 3:05PM MUSWELLBROOK CUP TICKETS ON SALE SOON MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Some hot early speed here with Labrusco, Gifted Dream and Sennacherib likely to go forward from middle and outside gates, and that should leave the speedy THE HAITIAN POET right behind them and waiting to pounce. The Poet’s Voice gelding went close on three occasions in his first prep and should return a stronger individual who is ready to break through first-up. None of these have shown any ability to date, and the two first starters have drawn wide and map poorly regardless of where they settle. The long straight should give The Haitian Poet every chance to get off heels and finish best.
