Previous Newcastle Tips:

May 4

Race 1 - 11:53AM STARR FACILITY SERVICES CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2365 METRES)
What a massive drop in class for MISS MOANA! The John Sargent-trained filly contested the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick last start and now contests a Class 1 and Maiden Plate at Newcastle. She was far from disgraced finishing seven lengths from Verry Elleegant after sitting just behind the speed, being outclassed in the straight but coming again with her strong staying ability. She was third-up and may have lacked a bit of fitness, and considering she won at this track and trip when fifth-up in her first campaign, she’ll take improvement from the run and looks a clear special in this. Watch The Cat also comes out of a strong form race after finishing 5.5 lengths from The Chosen One in the Packer Plate (2000m), but the extra trip is a query for the Time Thief gelding.
Result (1st - $2)

Race 5 - 2:18PM GALLAGHER INSURANCE BROKERS NEWCASTLE NOBBYS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1900 METRES)
Jason Deamer’s Reset mare, LADY EVELYN, should be ready to show her best third-up following a 2nd placing behind Maddison Avenue at Randwick. Maddison Avenue was coming off a strong win at Sandown and went back-to-back which strengthens the form. Last campaign, Lady Evelyn went from a 2.4-length 6th placing second-up over 1350m to a half-length victory over 1570m. She’s also a winner over 1900m at Rosehill so the step up to this distance suits perfectly.
Result (unplaced)

March 9

Race 4 - 3:19PM BUILDCERT CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
The barrier (12) has made it a bit tougher for LEATHERHEAD, but he’s got the strongest form in this race and will be suited third-up as he gets out to the mile. Previous form around this trip includes a 5th placing behind Tavirun over 1500m at Moonee Valley, and then a 4th placing behind Savoie over 1800m at Flemington. Two trials and two 1400m runs have him fit, and he should be running on strongly.
Result (scratched)

Race 8 - 6:05PM JPM PLASTERING BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
The Kris Lees-trained THINK FREE returned in good order with a win at Scone over 1300m, and she should continue to improve. She was 3rd on debut and then finished 2nd to Herzegovina who was 3rd to Girl Tuesday and Holy Reign in the start prior. Think Free has drawn to get a soft run around midfield and if Andrew Gibbons can find a clear passage home, she can finish best.
Result (1st - $2.30)
