Pakenham

Racing is at Pakenham on Tuesday for a marathon ten-race program on the synthetic track. We raced on the synthetic track on Sunday and it was a leader dominated program, so watch for any pattern in the early races.

Race 2 - 12:30pm Backcare & Seating SV 3YO Maiden Plate (1400m)
Star hoop Ben Melham returned to the saddle with a winner at Flemington on Saturday, partnering Not A Single Cent to an impressive victory and I’m confident he can continue that good form with a winner at Pakenham on Tuesday, as three-year-old gelding SAVANNAHLANDER looks very tough to beat in race two. He hit the line strongly over 975m at Swan Hill on debut, running the fastest last 400m and 600m of the meeting, he then went to Donald last start over 1200m and was very unlucky behind Indian Rani. It wasn’t the best ride from Jake Duffy and he was forced to stop momentum and weave through the field on three separate occasions in the straight, despite that he still flashed home to finish 0.6 lengths from the winner while running the third-fastest last 400m of the meeting and sixth-fastest last 200m of the meeting. Looking at the opposition, there doesn’t seem to be much in this race at all. I wasn’t overly impressed with the debut run of Artie’s Autobahn at this course and distance, although he maps well and may improve. The Shane Nicols first starter I’m Here Too is the other horse in the market. I found a jumpout he contested here at Pakenham back on the 26th of June and although he won, he was pushed out and I wasn’t very impressed with that piece of work. Savannahlander gets the positive jockey change from Jake Duffy to Ben Melham and looks the best horse in this race, my only concern is if he gets too far back on what could be a leader bias track.
