Pakenham

Racing is at Pakenham on Monday, August 12 and we have an eight-race program on the synthetic track. It looks a competitive meeting and Phillip Stokes has a strong hand, with at least one key winning chance in the last race.

Race 8 - 5:00pm Sportsbet – Grubs On Tour BM64 Handicap (1200m)
I thought the Phillip Stokes-trained PUNKZY was impressive breaking her maiden status here at Pakenham three weeks ago and she is a horse who can progress through the grades. She showed talented last preparation, just missing on debut behind Assertive Approach who started odds on in a good race at Flemington on Saturday. She stepped out in a weak maiden first-up and was well backed, from $1.75 into $1.50 and got the job done despite looking average at best in the mounting yard. I thought she could walk a lot smoother and definitely wasn’t at her peak fitness, so she would’ve taken plenty of benefit from the run. Once Ben Allen got her to the outside, she ripped home, running the second-fastest last 200m of the meeting and the fastest last 400m, 600m and 800m of the meeting. From barrier nine, she will likely settle back again and will be charging home late. Looking at her rivals, Blood Oath was terrific winning at Pakenham first-up off a long spell. He defeated the in form Love Machine and ran 3.8 lengths below the overall benchmark, which was around the figure of Ripcord who also won on that day, he went on to start $3.00 favourite in a race at Caulfield against Tavirun and Not A Single Cent. Quora gets the tongue tie first time, winkers first time and goes from L.German to L.Meech so she must be considered a chance. I thought both Western Sun and Tykaito were taking up too much of the market. Western Sun got things to suit last start, sitting on-speed in a race that never changed complexion. M.Walker will need to show intent from barrier 10, which isn’t his strong suit and he isn’t riding in good form, with no winners from his last 28 rides.
