Racing Bet of the Day August 2 - weight swing gives Tanto the edge

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 1 Aug 2018
  • 3.5kg weight swing in favour of Tanto Bianco.
  • Will benefit from last run over 1200m where he peaked late.
  • Confidence rating: 92%

High winds have seen the past two Pakenham synthetic meetings abandoned after the first race, but on with a milder day on Thursday, we should be getting through the eight-race card.

A field of eight go around in Race 6, the John Duff & Co BM64 Handicap (1200m), and I’m keen to stick with Tanto Bianco despite having tipped him at his past two starts where he has finished 4th and 2nd.

The Pat & Chris Hyland-trained son of Bianconi was runner-up to Our Luca over 1000m when first-up from a spell, and with improvement to come, he was worth following next start at the same track at trip.

On times, he improved by six lengths at his second run, but he had to settle for 4th when beaten half a length by Non Paear who scored back-to-back wins.

Last start, Tanto Bianco was stepping up to 1200m on the synthetic track where I again thought he looked hard to beat, but after going stride for stride with Chavuma throughout, he weakened in the final 100m to finish a length 2nd to Chavuma.

There was only half a kilogram splitting Chavuma and Tanto Bianco last start, but with apprentice Lachlan King taking the ride on Thursday and will utilise his 1.5kg claim, Tanto Bianco gets in with 4kg less than his last start victor.

He should also take plenty of benefit from that last run where he weakened late, and from the inside gate, he’ll be racing on speed and should be strong through the line with less weight and more fitness.

Last start winner Snows Bro is also well held in the market, but his most recent performance at the track and trip rates five to six lengths slower than Chavuma and Tanto Bianco’s last start effort.
