Racing Bet of the Day August 20 - value in Place option at Swan Hill

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 20 Aug 2018
  • Masterbrax the one to beat.
  • Another Kerrie represents value for the Place.
  • Confidence rating: 85%

Darren Weir’s Masterbrax is a deserving favourite for Race 3, the SHJC Become an 18/19 Member Now Maiden Plate (1300m) at Swan Hill on Monday, but there is one at big odds that appeals for the Place.

Firstly, Masterbrax is third-up from a spell and should be ready to perform as he steps up to 1300m following a last start 3rd placing behind More Joyous’ daughter, More Sundays, who scored by six lengths.

He’s been smashed in betting and has firmed from $3.10 to $1.70, and at the current odds, he represents little value.

However, one that does offer great value is the Stephen Lenehan-trained Another Kerrie.

The six-year-old daughter of Gallo Di Ferro has failed to break through in 15 career starts but has managed to place on three occasions.

But her last two starts indicate she is in career best form, and if she can bring that Geelong synthetic form to Swan Hill, she’ll be charging at them late.

Having shown a dislike for Soft and Heavy tracks, Another Kerrie was tried on the synthetic track at Geelong where she charged home from the rear to grab 4th place over 1100m.

She then stepped up to 1200m at the same track and again flew home from the rear to finish 3.25 lengths from Darren Weir’s Fiera Vista who has subsequently finished 2.7 lengths from Chevalier D'eon in what looked a very strong BM64 at Sandown.

Fiera Vista’s win at Geelong was marginally quicker than the other BM64 held on the same day, so the form from that race looks genuine.

But the biggest advantage for Another Kerrie may be the long 473m straight at Swan Hill.

She’ll drop out to the rear from her wide gate, and there should be some decent speed up front with Dash To The Bar taking up the running.

Masterbrax will be stalking the speed and should get his chance to break through, but Another Kerrie should be flying home late and can at least get into the placings if not cause an upset.
