Racing Bet of the Day November 9 - 2 best bets for Cranbourne on Friday night

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 8 Nov 2018
  • Suggested Stake: 2 units to win on both runners.
  • Confidence rating: Tippitywichet 90%, Trogir 93%

Beside landing a $14 placegetter in the Oaks on Thursday, it’s a been a quiet week for my best bets, but we can hit back hard at Cranbourne on Friday night.

The last two Friday’s have been good to us with two from two at Moonee Valley last fortnight and then a $13 winner at the Valley last Friday, and I’m confident we can make it three winning Friday’s in a row.

Here are my two best bets for Cranbourne:

Race 2 - 7:00PM GOLDNERS HORSE TRANSPORT 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)
If trainer Pat Carey wants TIPPITYWICHIT to win this, he can, but if this is an educational run, he’ll need a bit of luck. The son of Fiorente has showed good early pace in both runs to date but has resented being restrained to take cover. On debut, he overraced for most of the way but was far from disgraced finishing three lengths from Zoumanor over the unsuitable 1000m trip. Next time he jumped and led over 1400m and dropped his head to relax beautifully, but as soon as another horse took over, he got fired up and wanted to get on with the job. He did relax again after another 150m, so he is learning. He got out to challenge and looked the winner, but the Godolphin filly Waka finished best to win by 1.2 lengths and she’s gone on to finish 4th in the Listed Connoisseur Stakes (1800m) at Flemington on Oaks Day. From barrier 4 on Friday night, Tippitywichit maps to sit one out and three pairs back, but he may be able to hold a forward position with fitness on his side as he stays at 1400m. If he does that he wins, but even if he does take a sit and relax, I think he can chime in on the bend and still prove too strong.

Race 7 - 9:30PM TAB MULTIPLIER BM78 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Trainer Phillip Stokes takes TROGIR across the border and he looks perfectly placed following a 3rd placing behind Debt Collector and Lady Gaga over 1400m last start where he peaked on his run in the final 150m. He ran the quickest sectionals of the race from the 800m-600m and 600m-400m, but his last 200m was the slowest of the first nine home despite finishing 3rd. That tells me he needed the run and being fourth-up over 1400m on Friday, he should be right at his peak. He maps perfectly from barrier four and should be one out and one back, and he’ll be chiming in on the bend to level up early in the straight which is exactly what you need to do at Cranbourne over this trip. They ran 1:23.43 last start and Trogir was three lengths from the winner, which still puts his time at sub 1:24, and none of Friday’s rivals are running that sort of time.
