Racing Bet of the Day February 8 - 2 best bets for The Valley

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 7 Feb 2019
  • Confidence rating: Greyworm 98%, Thine Is The Power 80%
  • Suggested Stake: Greyworm (5 units to Win), Thine Is The Power (2 units to Win)

Take advantage of Sportsbet’s The Valley special in Races 2 and 3 on February 8, which gives you your money back in bonus bets (up to $50) if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd.

The first selection should be running top two as I can only see one danger, but he should be too good, while the second selection finds an open race, and instead of going for the Place bet, take a throw at the stumps with a Win bet knowing you’ll get a bonus bet if she does run a Place.

Here are my two best bets for The Valley tonight:

Race 2 - 7:00PM Otis Foundation Sprint Series Heat 4 (1200 METRES)
Sticking with GREYWORM who scored for us first-up at The Valley two weeks ago. He and Rox The Castle should fight it out and I really can’t see anything else getting near them. The following is a breakdown of their 200m splits from the 1000m mark at The Valley over 1200m:
Greyworm: 10.55, 11.26, 11.64, 11.48 and 11.90
Rox The Castle: 11.05, 11.28, 11.14, 11.53 and 11.64
Greyworm showed superior early speed when first-up and vulnerable, and he ran the quickest 1000m to 800m split of the entire meeting – so he should lead – especially with extra fitness this time. Rox The Castle went quicker from the 600m to 400m and 200m to winning post, but he was second-up and had extra fitness, while Greyworm was softened up early and was also eased down late. Greyworm has more upside on that performance and should lead all the way here. At $1.65, I’m using my Power Play and boosting to $1.75, as I can see this horse starting $1.50 or less like he did last time.

Race 3 - 7:30PM Sarah’s Dream Handicap (1000 METRES)
Make no mistake, this is a wide-open event. But I loved the first-up run of THINE IS THE POWER who finished 1.2 lengths from Crack The Code over 1100m at Caulfield. She clearly peaked on her run in the final 100m, and I’m not sure she gets the trip genuinely. She’s a dead-set 1000m horse, and her first-up run looked like they were testing the waters with a warm-up run. Jamie Kah took her back to last, and she was challenging strongly in the straight before peaking late – I have no doubt she may have won if that race was over 1000m. There is some hot early speed here with La Pomme de Pin and Yulong Wain going forward, and I think there’s a nice space to slot in behind the speed if Fred Kersley opts to push Thine Is The Power early. She led to win at Sandown and sat 2nd at Morphettville when defeating Dancer’s Kin, and she also sat just off the speed when finishing runner-up to Shilldora who then went on to be beaten a neck by Bleu Roche in the Group 3 Red Roses. This filly has strong form, has come back in great order, and maps for victory if she’s allowed to go forward.
