She impressed in a recent barrier trial at Cranbourne behind Crimson Petal and Feign who lines up on Tuesday, but Exquisite Beauty had their measure and went to the line untested.

She’s a big chance in the race, but at her current odds, she represents weak value in an open race with five first starters and others that could significantly improve into their second preparation.

Sometimes the ‘bet of the day’ comes as a clear standout in a race, but other times, value is what makes a good chance a great betting proposition.

The Danny O’Brien-trained Moldova strikes me as a great betting proposition at $14 following two impressive jump outs.

She showed good early speed in her first jump out at Flemington on March 29 where she went to the line locked with Mishe Mokwa who won at Mornington on debut and Peak who finished 4th at Caulfield on April 6.

Moldova then went to the Werribee jump outs on April 8 and finished 2nd Floreat Pica who she finished in front of at Flemington.

Floreat Pica was 7th on debut behind Brooklyn Hussle and Yes Yes Yes, and that Moonee Valley race has turned out quite strong.

Floreat Pica was also runner-up to Sly Samba Deer in a recent barrier trial, and that gelding was caught in traffic when finishing six lengths back in the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m) at Bendigo.

I like the fact that O’Brien gave the daughter of Snitzel a trip away from home at her second jump out as that should prepare her well for her first-up assignment.

Damien Oliver sticks with her from barrier 5, and the pace she has shown in both jump outs suggests she’ll be up on the speed at Bendigo.

Fitness shouldn’t be an issue and she went to the line under a strong hold last start.

If anything can beat this well-supported favourite, it will be Moldova.
