The Craig Blackshaw-trained Mr Ziggy was unlucky last start and can atone at the same track and distance on Thursday night.

The four-year-old Shinzig gelding has had 13 chances to date, and that’s a concern, but on times, figures and expected improvement, he should be winning Race 3, the Garfield Post Office Maiden Plate (1600m) on the Pakenham synthetic.

He did so much wrong last start and was narrowly beaten by Givepeace a Chance who was coming off a strong 3rd placing at Sale and looked set to peak fourth-up.

Mr Ziggy overraced slightly throughout, copped a big bump on the turn, went to the inside and got chopped out of a run before changing course, getting to the outside and working home strongly to just miss.

Mr Ziggy was one of 19 horses that posted final 600m figures better than benchmark on the night as he came home in 34.64 – and he should have come home much quicker without an interrupted run.

Derugle Diamond who finished 3rd in that event and has a clear fitness advantage was inferior in the final 600m where he went three lengths slower after trying to lead throughout.

Mr Ziggy comes into Thursday’s event with three runs over 1200m, 1400m and 1600m under his belt, and he’s sure to be strong through the lines and now looks set to peak.

Eliabella was the horse that originally attracted my attention in this event as she’s a Camelot filly that is improving with every start, she looked impressive last start and now gets Jamie Mott in the saddle.

However, there were four 1500m races on the Ballarat Synthetic when she competed, and every sectional component of her race rated extremely low.

She could improve enough to figure in the finish, but on her last start figures, I can’t see her getting near Mr Ziggy who maps to sit outside the lead or take a one out and one back sit if something else wants to force the tempo.
