Murray Bridge Racecourse will host it’s first meeting on the new surface which is rated a Soft 5 and looks like a golf green.

Tony McEvoy can take out the first two races with what look like an above average pair, and while they’ll be short in the market, they can be combined in a multibet to boost the value.

For the brave punter, we can take a third multi leg with a value favourite who looks a good thing to finish in the placings.

Here are my best bets for Murray Bridge today:

Race 1 - 12:10PM BURKE URBAN / SABOIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)
The Tony McEvoy-trained THE DIFFERENCE is on debut and it will take something special to beat him here. The son of I Am Invincible won a 1000m barrier trial at this track by 8.3 lengths, and while the overall times wasn’t impressive, The Difference certainly was. He resented being restrained from the outset and was caught six wide without cover for the trip. Despite that, he really let rip in the straight and won by to put a big space on them. He won his only trial at Cranbourne in November and looks to have strengthened up since then.

Race 2 - 12:45PM UNICORN STABLE PANELS / SABOIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)
Another McEvoy-prepared runner that also impressed winning a 1000m trial at Murray Bridge. PRETTY BRAZEN won her heat in slightly slower time than The Difference but looked good putting 7.5 lengths on them in the straight. She has solid form lines with a 2nd to Microphone on debut before finishing 2.3 lengths from Catch Me and then 4.4 lengths from Castelvecchio over 1200m. The wide gate is her main obstacle but Barend Vorster is clearly the best jockey in South Australia and will give her every chance.

Race 5 - 2:30PM BRUCE NOSKE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
OUR BENEVENTO is trained at the track and ran quicker time than the McEvoy pair at the recent Murray Bridge trials. I blackbooked this mare from the trials last campaign and she won first-up, but in what looks a competitive race, I’m happy to take her for the Place in my multi. Jason Holder sticks with her and will let her settle around midfield before winding up in the straight and challenging hard.

Multibet:
Race 1 No. 6 The Difference - $1.35 to Win
Race 2 No. 14 Pretty Brazen - $1.35 to Win
Race 5 No. 4 Our Benevento - $1.75 to Place
