The daughter of Redoute’s Choice has strong staying form having won over 2000m at her third career start and then backing that up with a win over 2046m before finishing 4th in the Group 1 Kennedy Oaks (2500m).

Third-up in her next preparation, she posted a PB benchmark (BM) performance going 6.9 lengths above BM when 3rd to Aliferous and Amangiri in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) before finishing 5th in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).

First-up this preparation, Maracaibo went 4.1 lengths above BM over 1400m at Caulfield, and last start, she went 3.6 lengths above BM over 1700m at Flemington.

She sat on a quick speed at Flemington and simply didn’t have the fitness base to absorb that run which is why she seemed to disappoint as she dropped out to finish 8.4 lengths from Sure Knee.

However, that run would have served her well and brought her fitness levels along nicely.

In her first preparation, Maracaibo improved her BM performance by 3.3 lengths third-up, and last campaign she improved by 6.4 lengths.

Similar improvement third-up this campaign would see her going 6.9 to 10 lengths above BM, and that rating would see her prove incredibly hard to beat.

Tysonic is the only one of her rivals to have posted stronger BM figures, and the rest of the opposition are at least six lengths from Maracaibo’s best.

Tysonic was runner-up to Miss Damita in the Mortlake Cup (2000m) last start and now meets that galloper 4.5kg worse at the weights.

On that performance, Miss Damita looms as the main danger, but she is yet to post a positive BM figure while Tysonic is capable of much better.

Maracaibo looks perfectly placed with the 3kg claim for Thomas Stockdale who has had a win, two 2nds and a 4th from his last four rides for Busuttin and Young.
