The four-year-old daughter of Rockferry was a beaten favourite on debut where a few things went wrong, but the race rated high.

After missing the start by a length or so, Moonlight Express was hunted up along the inside to take a forward position, but the leaders crossed and slackened the tempo which caused her to overrace.

She got a split at the top of the straight and had every chance to win the 1300m event at Warrnambool, but she failed to finish it off as strongly as anticipated and finished 4.4 lengths from Heart Of Puissance.

That race rated 2.4 lengths above benchmark (BM) which was the best performance on the day, and Heart Of Puissance has franked the form by winning at The Valley last Friday.

It’s interesting to note that Smith drops his mare back to 1100m at her second run, and maybe they think she just didn’t get the trip on debut.

All of Friday’s rivals have rated between 8.5 and 20 lengths below BM last start, and that’s a massive disparity between the favourite and the opposition.

The drop back in trip should see her strong though the line, and she looks hardest to beat.

Yendall now goes aboard and knows Warrnambool better than most, and he’ll give Moonlight Express every chance from barrier 5.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained High Glamour is next in the market but was ridden out to finish last in a barrier trial that simply didn’t impress.

The stable is flying, and she could improve out of sight, but she’d seriously need to off that trial effort.
