Racing Bet of the Day February 12 - 2 best bets for the same race at Kyneton

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 12 Feb 2019
  • Confidence rating: Gasworx to Win 98%, Rose Of Capri to Place 90%
  • Suggested stake: Gasworx (4 units to Win), Rose Of Capri (2 units to Place)

The market has two horses clearly on top in Race 6, the Grand Handicap Mile Series Exempt Race 1 BM64 (1469m) at Kyneton on Tuesday, and I’m keen to oppose the second favourite which makes the favourite a standout.

Gasworx is the $2 favourite for the in-form trainer/jockey combo of George Osborne and Linda Meech, while the $3.80 second favourite is Visao for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable.

Visao may be a dual Group 1 performer, but he was average in a recent barrier trial and looks like he’ll need a run or two so I’m willing to take him on.

The horse he beat home in the trial, Trip, was 3rd behind subsequent Blue Diamond Prelude winner Lyre, and the 2nd horse home in the trial, Call Me Handsome finished 3.6 lengths from Avilius in the Carlyon Cup last Saturday - so maybe the trial was exceptionally strong.

However, Visao was pushed right out in the trial and the others just cruised, so I don’t rate his effort.

Gasworx scored consecutive victories over 1300m and 1500m before stepping up to 1600m at Caulfield and Sandown and being run down late to finish 2nd on both occasions.

The drop back to 1469m looks perfect and he’ll take some catching down the relatively short 250m straight at Kyneton.

Of the others, Hay Handsome and Saracentinal are last start winners at this track and trip, while Rose Of Capri was charging home behind Saracentinal.

Here are their final splits from the 600m to winning post:

Hay Handsome 11.86, 12.11 and 11.67
Saracentinal 11.83, 12.06 and 11.93
Rose Of Capri 11.78, 12.03 and 11.65

In comparison, Saracentinal may have run the final 200m two lengths slower than Hay Handsome, but Saracentinal’s overall race time was six lengths quicker so it would be expected he would run the slower final sectional.

However, Rose Of Capri ran the slickest final 200m in the quicker run race, while also running the quickest 400m and 600m.

Hay Handsome has more upside being third-up, but he also goes up 2kg on his latest effort while Saracentinal drops 1kg and Rose Of Capri drops 3.5kg.

Based on weights and times, Hay Handsome would need to improve by five lengths to turn the tables on Saracentinal.

Rose Of Capri should be ready to peak fifth-up from a spell, and I can see her charging home with a big weight pull on most of these.

Getting Leggie is a jumper resuming and has very little chance, Spearhead is out of form and has won one race since 2017, Captain Harry needs more racing and Courting Verity’s times are well below what is needed here.

Gasworx is a standout winner here, but with Rose Of Capri over the odds at $23 and $4.60, she represents great value for the Place.
