Hailing from the powerful Lindsay Park stable, the two-year-old daughter of Per Incanto boasts strong form from her first two runs before going for a spell.

She debuted over 1000m at The Valley with a 4th placing behind Lady Lupino and Lady Naturaliste who finished 5th and 1st respectively in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.

Lady Lupino went on to defeat Godolphin’s spruik horse Chenier before finishing 3rd to Castelvecchio and Loving Gaby in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Maktabba stepped up to 1200m at The Valley next time and had no luck as she was caught three deep on the speed without cover for the trip.

She challenged on the turn but was outgunned by Yes Yes Yes who then went on to win the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick before finishing 7th in the Golden Slipper (1200m) at the same track.

So, all the form around Maktabba looks extremely strong, and with 22 weeks to mature, she’s sure to be a force to be reckoned with.

She scorched the synthetic turf in a 1000m barrier trial Pakenham where she showed great early speed and was ridden out in the end to defeat Be Brilliant by 4.5 lengths.

Be Brilliant debuted in the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) and although she finished 11 lengths from Catch Me, her placement is a clear indication of the stable’s opinion of her.

I love the way Maktabba was pushed out in her barrier trial as she won’t be going into her first-up assignment underdone.

She ran the quickest time of the 16 1000m heats (0:59.86) on the day, and she was doing her best work late as she attacked the line with purpose.

Jamie Kah takes the ride and should give Maktabba every chance to get her maiden out of the way.
