The fact is, only 40 percent of horses will get through the Heavy 10 at Moe on Thursday, 15 percent will appreciate it and only five percent will revel in it.

The Peter Gelagotis-trained Strong Influence is one of that five percent, and he looks extremely hard to beat in Race 4, the S&S Equipment Hire BM64 Handicap (1600m).

He scored a dominant 4.5-length win at this track when first-up on a Heavy 10, and he absolutely swam though the conditions and was eased down well before the line.

Gelagotis raised the bar from BM58 grade and sent Strong Influence to a BM70 at Sandown on a Heavy 8 where he was narrowly beaten by Search Squad who has won three from four on Heavy tracks.

Good tracks at his next two starts saw him finish around midfield, but he now gets back onto a Heavy 10 which gives him a big advantage.

The real unknown is how Strong Influence will handle the step up to 1600m for the first time, and while his sire, Squamosa, produces mostly sprinters, his dam, Barefoot Marvel, is a dual winner over 2000m.

With four runs under his belt this campaign, he has the perfect fitness base to step up to the mile.

Southern Yankee is the likely improver and Real Thinker also brings good Heavy track form, but a Heavy 10 is a different kettle of fish altogether, and we know Strong Influence will skip through it.
