Racing Bet of the Day October 22 - Rubick filly to shine Bright again

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 21 Oct 2019
  • Confidence rating: 92%
  • Suggested stake: 3 units to Win

I’m keen to stick with the John Ramsey-trained Bright Rubick as when she lines up in Race 5, the tab.com.au Class 1 Handicap (1280m) at Muswellbrook on Tuesday.

Her best benchmark (BM) performance of 2.6 lengths above BM when finishing 4.4 lengths from Tenley in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) is eight to 12 lengths superior than the best effort of any horse in Tuesday’s event.

She was beaten 10 lengths by Libertini when resuming in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) but had excuses and was always going to improve with the run.

Next start at Newcastle, Bright Rubick charged home from near last on the bend and was beaten 1.9 lengths, but the leader went 11 lengths below BM to the 600m and backmarkers had little chance.

Shen then went to Muswellbrook and set a new class record over 1280m when defeating Kingston Heath comfortably while there was a big gap back to 3rd place.

Mahogany Bay rates as the main danger having won at this track over 1000m last start, but his time was six lengths slower than the following Class 1 event on the day and that puts a query on the form.

In comparison, Bright Rubick raced in the third event that day and was only two lengths slower than both the Class 2 event and Coolmore Denman Cup which were races 4 and 5.

With three runs under her belt, including her most recent at this distance, Bright Rubick should be at peak fitness while Mahogany Bay may be vulnerable late stepping up to this trip second-up after a battling maiden victory.

Kris Lees’ Perfect Peace rates as the other top hope and comes off a debut win over 1200m, but the horse she narrowly defeated, Greenskeeper, hasn’t won in 14 starts and the 3rd placed Untamed Dragon was subsequently beaten 5.3 lengths in a Narromine maiden.

Bright Rubick maps well and should get a soft trail behind the speed before challenging in the straight.
