Racing Bet of the Day November 19 - a clear standout for Taree

Aaron Hamilton in Free Tips 18 Nov 2019
  • Confidence rating: 92%
  • Suggested stake: 2 units to Win

The Ross Stitt-prepared Fair Dinkum is flying this campaign and I expect him to be winning Race 9, the Thank You Rural Fire Service Benchmark 66 Handicap (1007m) at Taree on Tuesday.

Having endured an 11-run campaign last spring and summer, the four-year-old son of Strategic Maneuver seems to have thrived with a well-deserved break, and each run this campaign has been a clear improvement on what he’d done previously.

He resumed with a win at Kempsey over 1000m and then went to Randwick to contest a 1000m Highway race and looked the winner before being swamped late by Marokawa.

That performance rated 5.0 lengths above benchmark (BM) which was the first time he had ever posted a positive BM figure.

Following a six-week let-up, Fair Dinkum stepped up to 1200m at Rosehill and showed his previous effort was no fluke as he went 2.2 lengths above BM when finishing 4th behind Plonka, Gumshoe and Zardoro.

Despite running well, the 1200m trip was a bit beyond him off the extended break, and the drop back to 1000m fourth-up on Tuesday looks ideal.

None of Tuesday’s rivals have ever posted positive BM figures, and if Fair Dinkum can run somewhere up to his last two starts, he should be beating these.

He’s a winner at the track and 1000m seems to be his pet trip, and with even luck from the wide gate, he can settle just off the pace and outsprint them in the straight.
