A locally-trained gelding stands out as one to beat today.

Race 6 - 4:15PM RJC AWARDS NIGHT/SPRING RACING LAUNCH - SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1100 METRES)
Locally-trained by John Pointon, CRIME BOSS will appreciate returning to his home track today and should give a bold sight in this company. Four starts back, he was resuming from a 10-week break when he broke his maiden here, running 1:10 for the 1200m. Next up, he finished just behind the placegetters in a QTIS three-year-old Hcp weakening in the final 100 metres. He then travelled to Townsville where thrived over the 1000m trip and put nearly three lengths on the three-year-old Hcp field, leading all the way with 58.5kgs on his back. Last start, he missed the jump, landing three lengths last before being pushed early to make up the lost ground. He then refused to settle and kept overracing to the turn. Bonnie Thompson then pulled him wide for the run home but it was all in vain as the winner (Oriental Girl) had left them standing. It was still a solid effort considering everything that went wrong. A return to his home track and in-form jockey Ryan Wiggins in the saddle can only add to his chances here.
