Rockhampton

Queensland racing is at Rockhampton on Thursday, for a small seven-race program with the rail out 7.5 metres. The track is currently rated a Good 4 and our best bet on the card comes up in race.

Race 2 - 2:27pm LJ HOOKER ROCKHAMPTON QTIS Three-Years-Old Class 2 Handicap (1300m)
Three-year-old gelding BANTU BAY looks well suited and hard to beat in this small field. He sat back last in a field of 12 first-up over 1200m and really hit the line nicely, running the fastest last 400m and 600m of the race. He went back to 1050m second-up, which seemed an odd decision but it worked, with the three-year-old breaking his maiden here at Rockhampton, running the quickest closing sectionals of the race. He raced over 1100m here at Rocky last start and although he ran second, he ran a career PB, running an overall figure of 2.1 lengths above class benchmark, which is the best figure of any horse in this race, while also running the eighth-fastest last 200m of the meeting and sixth-fastest last 400m of the meeting. The jockey and trainer both have positive ROI’s over their last 50 rides/runners and he can settle slightly closer in the run from barrier four.
