Roughies Tips - 3 roughies to back at Flemington and Rosehill on Saturday September 14

Racing is at Flemington on Saturday September 14 for the running of the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), while in Sydney, the action is at Rosehill.

We have looked through the fields at the respective venues and picked out the best three roughies to back for the day, each-way.

Flemington Race 2 - 1:05PM Cap D'Antibes Stakes (1100 METRES)
The fillies tackle the Cap D'Antibes Stakes and LANKAN STAR can be the improver at her second run back from a spell. The Hayes and Dabernig galloper looked like she needed the run at Caulfield in the Quezette Stakes (1100m), finishing a three length 7th to Exhilarates. On that occasion, the daughter of Nicconi overraced in the early stages but managed to close off ok in what was a bit of a sit-sprint type affair late in the piece. She has attracted some support in the early betting and her best is good enough to take this out. She finished runner-up in the Blue Diamond (1200m) in the autumn and might be suited after drawing the grandstand side.

Rosehill Race 7 - 3:50PM TOOHEYS 150TH BIRTHDAY THEO MARKS STAKES (1300 METRES)
The much maligned galloper, TOM MELBOURNE, lines up for another preparation and appears in what is an interesting version of the Theo Marks Stakes. The nine-year-old, who has won almost $1.4 million in prize money for connections, is a genuine place prospect. At his last campaign he finished in the money in four straight runs before producing a competitive 5th at Group 1 level in the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m). It should also be noted that he kicked off that preparation with a big win ahead of Flow and Tangled in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1300m). He was also competitive when resuming in the spring last year, narrowly missing out behind Comin' Through. He has trialled well in the lead up to this and is likely to push forward from the draw. With luck in running he can go close.

Race 8 - 4:50PM Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200 METRES)
The Bobbie Lewis sees the second tier sprinters go at it and the veteran galloper, DOTHRAKI, can go close to taking this out. After an autumn campaign that yielded some competitive runs in a number of Group races, the nine-year-old was put away for a spell and resumed with a close up 6th in the Show County Quality behind Deprive at Randwick. He tends to save his best for when he is second up and last year he claimed this race at the exact same stage of his spring preparation, while in the summer, he just missed out in the $1million Magic Millions Sprint, despite carrying the top weight in that race. Mark Zahra will look to find cover from barrier 6 and it will be no surprise to see him right in the thick of things at the business end.
